George Cardell Briggs CMG〔(London Gazette )〕 OGS〔(Church Times obituary )〕 (6 September 1910 – 15 March 2004)〔(Roots Web )〕 was the first Bishop of The Seychelles〔The Times, 20 January 1973; pg. 16; Issue 58686; col C Church news〕 Born in Warrington, Briggs was educated at Worksop College and Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. After studying at Ripon College Cuddesdon he was ordained in 1935. He was a curate of St Alban’s Stockport until 1937 〔Who was Who1897-2007: London, A & C Black, 2008 ISBN ISBN 978-0-19-954087-7〕 when he became a missionary priest in the Diocese of Masabi, Tanzania.
